Thinking like a fake stone
ALL THAT TIME WE PLAYED, GETTING LOOSE, THE SAND FROM THE CONCRETE QUAKING, THE CONCRETE FROM THE RUNES GROWING, UNTIL THE PLACES YOU LABELLED BEFORE BECAME NONSENSICAL.
THINKING LIKE A FAKE STONE is a performative conference derived from an eponymous installation art which was presented at the Centre de la Photographie de Genève, Switzerland, during November 2019. This work investigates the agentive properties of two cladding panels made of (simulated) stone, on which we engraved a text. We authored the text in an ostensibly antropomorphist fashion, taking the view of the fake stone, and referring to the essay Thinking Like Mountain by Aldo Leopold. Yet, the gap or play between the stones animates the object, obliging us to an obsessive numbering of the stones to keep the text consistent with our initial anthropomorphic gesture. While this work gratifies neglected substitutes, usually considered as inferior, with the kind of speculations human usually dedicate to the so-called natural assets, it also generates what we call and explain as a « forgerical » intelligence.
